Alpha-2-macroglobulin levels in disease in man.
نویسنده
چکیده
Serum alpha(2)-macroglobulin levels were measured in normal subjects and in patients with various diseases by an immunochemical method. The values for normal men were 284 mg./100 ml. (+/-89.6 mg./100 ml.) and for normal women 350 mg./100 ml. (+/-94.5 mg./100 ml.). Men with rheumatoid arthritis had normal levels, but the levels in women were depressed. There was no relationship to the concentrations of the acute phase reactive proteins, haptoglobin, and C-reactive protein. In chronic liver disease, the levels in men were significantly higher than normal and were slightly higher than normal in women.A small group of patients with nephrotic syndrome had very high levels. No significant variations from the normal were found in sera from a group of patients with miscellaneous diseases.

High Serum Alpha-2-Macroglobulin Level in Patients with Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head
Background: Diagnosis of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is complicated due to the lack of reliable serum biomarkers. Up-regulation of alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2M) gene has been reported in glucocorticoid-induced ANFH rat model. This study aimed to investigate whether the serum level of alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2M) can be used for ONFH diagnosis. Methods: Serum protein capillary elect...
متن کاملA deletion polymorphism in the human alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2M) gene.
Description: Alpha-2-macroglobulin is a major proteinase inhibitor in man. To study the bait domain, which defines the inhibitory spectrum of the protein and which is encoded by two exons (1), primers were designed to amplify the second exon.

The serum levels of alpha(2)-macroglobulin and pregnancy-associated globulin (another alpha-macroglobulin) have been measured by means of a radial immunodiffusion technique in (1) renal disease with and without proteinuria, (2) in age- and sex-matched controls, (3) in preeclampsia with and without proteinuria, and (4) in normal pregnant controls. There are significant increases in alpha(2)-macr...
متن کاملSerum and sputum alpha 2 macroglobulin in patients with chronic obstructive airways disease.
Serum alpha 2 macroglobulin concentrations were measured in patients with chronic obstructive airways disease and an age-matched group of control subjects. The mean serum level of alpha 2 macroglobulin was significantly lower in bronchitic subjects with acute chest infections than the mean value of the controls. No significant differences were observed between serum alpha 2 macroglobulin values...
متن کاملEffects of inhaled histamine, methacholine and capsaicin on sputum levels of alpha 2-macroglobulin.
BACKGROUND Plasma exudation-derived proteins and peptides contribute significantly to inflammation in the airway mucosa in vivo. In the guinea pig trachea both histamine and the neurogenic stimulant capsaicin produce acute mucosal tissue distribution and luminal entry of bulk plasma, whereas cholinergic agonists fail to produce this effect. Of these agents, only histamine induces mucosal exudat...
